The Rainwater Couples Intensive.
A Guided Journey Toward a Conscious Relationship.
Relationships ask us to do more than learn how to communicate. They invite us to understand the histories, attachment patterns, expectations, wounds, and ways of protecting ourselves that each person brings into the relationship.
The Rainwater Couples Intensive™ is an immersive, multi-phase therapeutic experience for couples who want to understand themselves, one another, and the relationship they are creating together. Grounded in Jungian and existential depth psychotherapy, the intensive moves beyond conflict resolution to explore the deeper relational patterns shaping your partnership while developing skills for lasting change.
My Integrative Approach.
Every relationship is shaped by two individual histories. Family-of-origin experiences, attachment narratives, grief, trauma, values, and unconscious expectations about love influence how we seek connection, respond to conflict, protect ourselves, and make meaning together. Rather than focusing on who is right or wrong, we become curious about what is happening between you and what the relationship may be inviting each of you to understand.
My work with couples draws from Dialogue Therapy, Jungian Depth Psychology, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), and Mindfulness—four complementary approaches that honor both the inner world and the shared space between you.
Dialogue Therapy helps partners slow down reactive patterns and create a structured, mindful dialogue. You learn to listen without defensiveness, speak from your own experience, and respond with clarity and compassion. It’s not about winning or losing—it’s about truly hearing and being heard.
Jungian Depth Psychology invites us to explore the unconscious dynamics that often underlie conflict—projections, shadow material, and the symbolic roles we play in love. When couples understand the deeper emotional forces at work, they can move from blame toward curiosity and meaning.
Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) focuses on the emotional bond and relational attachment between partners. Together we identify cycles of disconnection and create moments of secure attachment—where vulnerability, trust, and safety can re-emerge.
Mindfulness is woven throughout our work as a foundation for awareness and presence. Through breath, reflection, and intentional pauses, you’ll learn to stay grounded during conflict, recognize your emotional and somatic cues, and meet your partner with openness rather than reactivity. Mindfulness deepens empathy and allows couples to experience one another beyond words—through attunement, compassion, and shared stillness.
Learning how to dialogue.
Dialogue is more than conversation. It is the disciplined practice of attempting to understand another person's reality while remaining grounded in your own experience. Throughout the intensive, I teach and coach three foundational practices of Real Dialogue:
Speaking for Self.
Expressing your own experience, feelings, needs, and perceptions rather than defining your partner's intentions or character.
Listening Mindfully.
Listening to understand your partner's experience rather than preparing a defense, rebuttal, correction, or solution.
Remaining Curious.
Developing the ability to wonder about what is happening within yourself, within your partner, and between the two of you, particularly when you experience something differently.
The purpose of dialogue is not to eliminate disagreement. It is to help couples develop a relationship in which difficult conversations can occur without difference automatically becoming disconnection.
how Mindfulness supports our work.
Mindfulness provides the foundation supporting every dimension of our work. Over time, mindfulness can help you notice emotional activation before it becomes reactive behavior, creating greater space for emotional regulation, authentic dialogue, and intentional choice.
Drawing from the Real Dialogue tradition, we cultivate three complementary capacities:
Mindfulness
Mindfulness develops awareness of what is happening within ourselves and between us.
Concentration
Concentration strengthens our ability to remain attentive and emotionally present.
Equanimity
Equanimity helps us meet difficult emotions with greater steadiness, openness, and compassion rather than immediate reaction.
These capacities are not cultivated simply for relaxation. They create the internal conditions necessary for genuine Dialogue. Throughout our work, practices may include breath awareness, grounding exercises, somatic observation, concentration practices, reflective silence, meditation, mindful dialogue, reflective journaling, and Qigong.
What You May Explore Along the Way.
Because every relationship has its own history and developmental needs, the specific content of each intensive is shaped by the couple who enters it. Rather than applying a standardized relationship formula, we remain attentive to the particular relationship the two of you have created.
Our work may include family-of-origin patterns, attachment histories, emotional triggers, recurring conflict, intimacy, grief and loss, trust, resentment, emotional distance, boundaries, changing identities, transitions, vulnerability, expectations of partnership, unresolved relational wounds, and your hopes for the future.
Who Is This Intensive For?
The Rainwater Couples Intensive™ may be particularly meaningful for couples who are committed to examining their relationship with depth and honesty. The intensive is not about creating a perfect relationship. It is about developing a more conscious one.
You may be seeking help with recurring conflicts or emotional distance.
You may already have participated in couples therapy and want an opportunity for more concentrated work.
You may be navigating a significant transition.
You may feel that you love one another but have become trapped in patterns neither of you knows how to change.
Or you may have a fundamentally strong relationship and want to understand one another more deeply as you enter the next chapter of your lives together.

The Guided Journey.
The Rainwater Couples Intensive unfolds through four intentional phases, allowing insight and new relational practices to develop, be tested in everyday life, and deepen over time.
Phase One: Weekend One — Building the Foundation.
We explore family-of-origin histories and attachment narratives, identify recurring relational patterns, and begin learning and practicing Dialogue Therapy through mindfulness, experiential work, and psychodrama.
Phase Two: Guided Integration.
Between weekends, you practice structured dialogue, mindfulness, reflective journaling, and intentional relationship exercises in everyday life. We meet for two 90-minute virtual coaching sessions to support integration and prepare for the second intensive.
Phase Three: Weekend Two — Deepening the Work.
We build upon your lived experience through advanced Dialogue, psychodrama, mindfulness, and depth psychotherapy, focusing on healing relational wounds, strengthening emotional resilience, deepening empathy, and intentionally creating the relationship you wish to cultivate moving forward.
Phase Four: Continued Integration.
Approximately three months later, we come together again in person for 1½ days to reflect upon your continued growth, strengthen what has become part of your relationship, and thoughtfully consider the next chapter of your journey together.
An Inclusive Space for Every Couple.
Completing the marriage counseling is open to couples of all backgrounds, orientations, and relationship structures—heterosexual or LGBTQIA+, long-term partners and those newly navigating life together. Our sessions provide a compassionate and nonjudgmental space to explore what love asks of you both.
Every relationship holds the possibility of growth, and it begins with two people willing to listen, learn, and begin again.
