what to expect

Initial contact

Prior to contacting me, I encourage you to explore my website to learn about my Winston Salem-based depth psychotherapy practice. I describe my training, specializations, and theoretical foundation; current counseling offerings; the benefits of counseling; and how resilience supports you on your life journey.

If you believe we could work together, please call my office at 336-310-9919 or fill out and submit the contact form at the bottom of this page to share your interest in learning more about how we could work together to reduce your anxiety, fears, relational distress.

first REflect on Your life transitions, loss, relational distress

Before your initial consultation, I encourage you to reflect on why you are seeking counseling at this time in your life. What life transitions, losses, or life explorations would you like to explore during counseling? Are there elements of your life that you would like to change? Grow from? Forgive and release? And, importantly, what qualities are you seeking in your counselor?

Then, Let’s talk

Upon receipt of your initial contact, I will connect with you within 24 hours—except during weekends and holidays—to establish your free 30-minute consult.

During your initial consult, you will have the opportunity to learn about my training and specializations and ask questions. I will invite you to share your current reason for seeking psychotherapy, previous counseling experiences, and mental health history. At the end of our 30 minutes, we can determine whether we wish to engage in a therapeutic alliance. If we decide we want to work together, you will receive an email with a link to fill out initial paperwork that will collect demographic information, emergency contacts, informed consent, and online payment authorization. All digital transactions are HIPAA-compliant to maintain your privacy and confidentiality.

Mental health therapy in-person? or online?

I offer therapy in-person at my private practice. I also offer online therapy for residents of North Carolina and Colorado.

I prefer to meet in person, provided you are not experiencing signs of COVID-19, the flu, or other upper respiratory illnesses.

Should we meet for a tele-health session, I will send you log-in information to join me online. For the protection of your privacy, confidentiality, and personal safety, I require that you join our session in a private space unimpeded by distractions—including traffic, co-workers, roommates, family members, etc. I take this very seriously, because it primarily protects you, but it also protects me.

If I sense that your surroundings are not conducive to privacy, confidentiality, and safety, I will require you to reschedule your appointment.
